about

IN PROCESS -- tracks still being uploaded, titles in flux, etc.

United Fruit (now Chiquita) has nothing on the Alto Clarinet industry. Alto Clarinet music is doled out to avaricious consumers who have no awareness or interest in the plutocracy which runs our alto clarinet republic.

The process of "folding" a track is simple: divide the track into roughly equal time lengths and play the pieces simultaneously. It seems to work pretty well, especially if you stayed in the same mode, with similar phrases throughout the original improvisation. After I'd folded several pieces, I recalled that my master's thesis, _Delayed Counterpoint_, provides the perfect theoretical framework for this music. "Even a solo piece," I wrote, back in 1988, "is in counterpoint with itself, but that counterpoint is _delayed_." Which then took me 32 years to act upon.

about

Dan Plonsey El Cerrito, California

Dan Plonsey is a composer and saxophonist. Inspired by music from many times and places, his compositions are irrationally rational, simple-minded, and melodic. The world which enjoys his music celebrates imperfection. Plonsey considers his works the result of being "at least slightly out of step with nearly everything. It draws upon all of my weaknesses as much as upon my strengths." ... more
