about

The first performance of Color Music occurred on June 27, 2004,
at the courtyard of the Museum of Children's Art (MoCHA), Old Oakland.
Some of this concert was filmed by Tim Perkis, and a few scenes appear in his documentary, "Noisy People," in which there is a segment on me.
While we played, children and their parents made art (some using popsicle sticks). The music written for this event became the basis for "Simple Music series 1: Color Music" of which there were eventually 99 pieces, being recorded steadily at ZOKA, the home studio of Michael Zelner and Suki O'Kane. Michael was the recording engineer, and Suki is responsible for having booked this first performance, as well as many others.

These performances are from various concerts, and from evenings at ZOKA. Eventually recordings of all, or nearly all, of the 99 pieces will emerge! Many thanks to Michael and Suki, and all the performers in Daniel Popsicle!

about

Dan Plonsey El Cerrito, California

Dan Plonsey is a composer and saxophonist. Inspired by music from many times and places, his compositions are irrationally rational, simple-minded, and melodic. The world which enjoys his music celebrates imperfection. Plonsey considers his works the result of being "at least slightly out of step with nearly everything. It draws upon all of my weaknesses as much as upon my strengths." ... more
